How to Apply

Hyde School is a place where students and families do meaningful work together. The application process is designed to give us a full picture of your student and to give your family a full picture of us.

Follow the steps below to get started. Reach out to our admissions team at any point with questions — we are glad you are here.

Step 1 — Begin your application

Hyde accepts applications through two platforms. Both are equally accepted. Choose the option that works best for your family.

Pick the application that is right for you
Hyde School Online Application Standard Application Online (SAO)

No Fee

$50 platform fee
The simplest and most direct path for most families

A useful option if your student is applying to multiple independent schools at once.

Complete and submit your application through our secure portal at no cost. Available here.

The $50 fee is paid to the SAO platform, not to Hyde. Hyde’s school code is 4050.

Step 2 — Submit additional materials

In addition to your online application, please submit the following:

  • Official school transcript (most recent)
  • Standardized test scores, if applicable — Hyde is test-optional for domestic students. English proficiency documentation is required for international applicants.
  • We require one recommendation from a teacher who has had you in an academic class (English, science, math, social studies, or world language) in middle or high school.

We welcome an optional second recommendation from another teacher or anyone else in your orbit – but not a family member – who can speak to who you are and your qualities.
Recommendations should be submitted directly by the recommender using Hyde’s Recommendation Form.
Please share this form with the individuals writing your recommendations.

Step 3 — Apply for financial aid (if applicable)

If your family would like to be considered for need-based financial aid, please complete the Clarity Financial Aid Application as part of your admissions process.

  1. Visit app.clarityapp.com and create an account for your family
  2. Complete the application and upload all required financial documents
  3. Financial aid decisions for new families are released alongside admissions decisions on a rolling basis
Returning families
Returning families receive aid decisions in early March and do not need to submit a new application. Questions about financial aid? Contact admissions@hyde.edu or 207-443-5584.

Step 4 — Complete your interview

Schedule your interview at any point in the process.
Before you apply, while your application is in progress, or after you submit — any of these works. Many families find it helpful to schedule early: the conversation gives you a much clearer picture of Hyde before completing the rest of the process.

An interview is required for all applicants. The student and at least one parent or guardian meet with a member of our admissions team, either in person on campus or via video call. Most interviews run 45 to 60 minutes.

This is a conversation, not a test. We use this time to learn more about your student: who they are, where they have been, and what they are looking for. We also want to answer every question your family has about Hyde. There are no trick questions and no wrong answers. The goal is a genuine exchange.

To schedule your interview: admissions@hyde.edu or 207-443-5584

Step 5 — Receive your decision

Hyde reviews applications on a rolling basis. Once your file is complete — application, materials, financial aid application if applicable, and interview — you will receive a decision. We will be in touch before any written notice goes out.

Hyde admits students on a rolling basis, which means we review applications as they are completed — there is no single decision date. Spaces in each grade are limited, so earlier applications typically receive earlier decisions.

Hyde reviews financial aid applications on a rolling basis as well. Families applying for financial aid are encouraged to complete the Clarity application as early as possible. Applying for financial aid does not affect the admissions decision, and decisions are made independently of financial need.

If you have questions at any point in this process, please reach out. We are glad to help.
