Hyde School Reviews Core Values and Character Education
“Hyde didn’t just help our son, it helped our whole family in so many ways, and we’re forever changed. We learned a language we could use to talk to one another. The family program was a huge part for us, we have made life-long friends. It’s a community that allows you to always be a part of it, very welcoming and inclusive.”

Many aspects of Hyde’s education appear very traditional, with Hyde School faculty frequently reviewing fundamental topics such as —college preparatory academics, mandatory athletics, required performing arts, community service, Hyde faculty remain devoted to each individual student’s personal growth. Yet, the core of Hyde’s pedagogy runs much deeper than any single program because it places deliberate emphasis and focus on helping students develop self-awareness and confidence to gain a genuine sense of self.
Character education and family partnership have been at the core of the Hyde School approach to a college preparatory education for over 50 years. These concepts are not simply words in a mission statement. Indeed, Hyde’s unique Family Education Program is as much a part of each student’s experience as the daily academic schedule.
When students depart Hyde’s gates after commencement, the most important quality they carry with them is a set of deeply understood ideals and principles that provide the founding values of Hyde School and are frequently reviewed by Hyde School faculty: Courage, Integrity, Leadership, Curiosity and Concern. Students authentically wrestle with these principles throughout their time at Hyde and every student graduates not with only a diploma and offers of college admission, but more meaningfully with a sense of what they believe and a defined vision for their future self.
The entirety of the curriculum at Hyde is grounded in character education and it is upon this foundation that all programs, including academics, athletics, performing arts and community service, are built. (Participation in each of these is required of every student.)
