Founder’s Findings #53 – Parenting: The Unrealized Profession (1)

The entire cover of one issue of the Philadelphia Magazine this past year was devoted to the words: THE WORST PARENTS EVER—its lead article.

This is a tough blog, because the vast majority of us deeply love and deeply appreciate our parents, who represent the most influential figures in our lives. We know that parents have made the greatest contribution by far to the growth of humans.

But this series of blogs is about parenting itself, which is arguably the least skilled human endeavor today. When compared to what it could and should be, it is terrible.

We humans have made huge strides in developing skilled physicians, engineers, lawyers, plumbers and other professionals. But we continue to blindly believe in what I might term in comparison as “voodoo” parenting.
