Solid Effort as Wolfpack Girls Varsity Falls to Kents Hill 0-2

November 6, 2017

Hyde – 0

Kents Hill – 2

Rain fell on the home turf as the Wolfpack gathered for their final regular season game against Kents Hill. Unfortunately, within the first minute of play the Huskies were able to score on an outside shot that deflected off the keeper’s glove and hit the post before going in. Hyde shook off the upset and played a strong half, testing Kents Hill on both ends. Senior captain Eliza Burroughs ’18 commanded the midfield, moving well off the ball and creating opportunities. Along with Ingrid Schroeter ’19, she was able to maintain the team’s focus on possession with great passing. Goalkeeper Faith Spath ’18 made several key saves keeping the half 1-0.

The pack returned to the field, determined to find an equalizer or better. Defenders Haley Baustert ‘18 and Madison Hughes ‘20 contributed strong performances, shutting down key players on Kents Hill’s offense. The second half was dominated by defensive play with neither team able to generate many scoring opportunities. Kents Hill’s second goal came when they were awarded a direct kick just outside the box. It was a beautifully struck ball just over the wall to near post. While there was plenty of time remaining in the game, Hyde was unable to answer and time eventually ran out. It was a solid effort for the team’s final contest of 2017.
