Wolfpack Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Hebron 3-5

Hyde School:     3
Hebron:             5

The Hebron Lumberjacks traveled to Bath Friday afternoon to play the last regular season match with the Wolfpack.  The game was played on the turf field under partly cloudy skies and unseasonably warm temperatures.

Hebron struck first with a goal in the 7th minute.  The Hyde boys responded with determination and grit.  However, despite strong play by the defensive unit of  Liam Monahan`18, Will Duerr`18, Captain Serge Mudogo`18 and Zuri Campbell`19, the Lumberjacks were able to notch another goal with just over 2 minutes remaining in the half.

The Wolfpack came out in the second half with intensity and poise.  There was much back and forth play with both teams having chances to score.  Captain Mwesa Mulonda scored the first Hyde goal off a free kick taken by center midfielder Cooper Felt`19 in the 63rd minute to make it 2-1.   Hebron countered in the 72nd minute and again in the 76th and 77th minutes to go up 5-1.  The Wolfpack would not rollover however, and kept fighting.   Captain Maulid Abdow scored on a 1v1, heading it over the keeper, less than a minute after the previous Hebron goal.  This was followed by Captain Mwesa Mulonda scoring on a direct free kick in the 79th minute.

Other noteworthy play came from Jed Danforth`19 as left outside midfielder.  He worked hard on both sides of the ball; making great defensive tackles to disrupt the opponent’s attacking momentum, and aiding the Wolfpack with his offensive efforts.  Altug Yimaz`19 also played well.  He started the day at the right outside midfield position, but moved to defensive center back late in the game when Will Duerr`18 came out with a gamey ankle.  Starting striker Derrick Rwikangura`18 also played well.  He made numerous attacking runs and figured prominently in the multiple chances had on goal.  Lastly, Kordell Smith`18 had a solid day in goal.  He made some impressive saves and did a nice job distributing the ball forward.

Despite the loss, this was an impressive game for the Wolfpack.  They played some of their best soccer of the season, truly ‘punching above their weight,’ against a talented Hebron team.  The team proceeds to post season play on Wednesday November 8th with the first game of the MAISAD tournament.
