Wolfpack Girls Varsity Soccer Stays Strong to Top Winchendon 2-1

October 18, 2017

Hyde – 2
Winchendon – 1

The Wolfpack returned to New Hampshire’s Seacoast Sports Complex to face a new opponent on their schedule, Winchendon. The game trailed a close loss to Gould the Saturday previous and Hyde was hungry for a win. Despite missing several key starters, the first half play was dominated by Hyde. Their first goal was notched when Logan Truluck ’20 bent a corner kick into the keeper and through her gloves. Francesca Zenker ‘19 and Laruen Leask ‘18 controlled the midfield, fighting hard for loose balls and distributing passes forward. Caroline Daly ’19 and Bridget Barone ’19 played well off the bench at defense and midfield respectively. After several shots on goal, captain Elena Waldstein ’18 finally sank a beautiful shot from 25 yards. It would remain the last goal of the half, closing at 2-0.

The second half was a different game and the momentum swung in favor of Winchendon. Hyde began to move slow to the ball and found themselves playing more defense in front of their own goal. Madison Hughes ’20 and Haley Baustert ’18 played solid games thwarting several scoring efforts. Merrill Truluck ’18 did an excellent job steering a new defensive formation.  Despite their efforts, Winchendon scored on a close shot after a corner kick to bring the game within one. With eight minutes left to play, Hyde began to take control again and finally began to return play to the opponent’s net. Time ran out and the game remained 2-1 at the final whistle. The team faces BCA at home during the upcoming Fall Family Weekend.
