Hyde – 0
Bradford Christian Academy – 2
Hyde hosted the Sentinels in front of a family weekend crowd for their second match of the season. It was a perfect fall day on the back field and excitement was high. Bradford Christian came to play and kept the game even for the first ten minutes. Hyde was awarded a penalty kick when the BCA keeper charged Hyde striker Elena Waldstein ’18 who had followed a shot into the box. Unfortunately, it was not converted and perhaps foreshadowed the game to come. Despite significantly outshooting BCA, Hyde was not able to score in the first half. The Wolfpack struggled to maintain proper possession and play was largely disorganized. A significant defensive error led to a Sentinel goal with only two minutes left in the first half.
After regrouping at half time the Hyde girls took the field and game by storm. Play was dominated in the mid-field by captain Eliza Burroughs ’18 who distributed the ball fluently to the flanks for crosses. Sweeper Merrill Truluck ’18 confidently turned back the few opportunities BCA had across the mid-field line. The Wolfpack hit the crossbar, missed by inches and delivered shot after shot but were unable to find the back of the net. Logan Truluck ’20 played an outstanding game on the outside right serving countless crosses to the middle and narrowly missing the net on several shots. With under four minutes left in the game, the Sentinels were able to penetrate and added to their score when a Hyde defender committed a hand ball in the box. The resulting penalty kick was converted making the final score 2-0. In the end, it was a score not reflective of the game and a tough loss for the Wolfpack.
