Hyde – 3
Gould – 4
It was an unseasonably warm day as the Wolfpack traveled north to face Gould for their second meeting of the fall. Hyde hosted them for their first game of the season, losing 3-1. With nine games and several weeks of preparation under their belts, the pack was ready for a different outcome. The long ride proved to render them sluggish and Gould opened the scoring with under a minute on the clock. Less than three minutes later, they hit repeat and the same Gould player scored on another long ball played over the Hyde backline. The third goal was a controversial one as a Gould player kicked the ball out from under the glove of keeper Alice Yokabaskas ’19. Despite challenge, the referees allowed the goal, advancing the home team to an early 3-0 lead. Hyde would not be counted out and worked hard to recover. After one goal was called back, Hyde finally found the board when Elena Waldstein ’18 executed a confident penalty kick. The half closed 3-1.
After the break, Gould scored first when the ball was played to an unmarked player just inside the box. The shot hit the far post and slid in to advance the score to 4-1. The remainder of the half was rather uneventful until Hyde began to gain momentum. Elena Waldstein ’18 scored another goal after receiving a beautiful cross from Logan Truluck ’20. After working hard all game, Ingrid Schroeter ’19 finally scored a well-placed shot from the top of the box. With eight minutes left to equalize, Hyde began to charge but was ultimately unable to score in the closing minutes of the game. After a truly brutal start, the team worked hard and staged a respectable come back. The look forward to facing Winchendon on Wednesday.
