Hyde – 0
Hebron – 3
The Hyde girls were eager to face the Lumberjacks of Hebron for the second time of the season on home turf. During their previous meeting, injuries and a tough second half led to a less than positive result and the team was confident they could deliver a better performance. The first twelve minutes of the game was evenly matched and it looked to be an exciting game. At the twelve-minute mark, Hebron was attacking the goal and a disorganized defense led to a shot inside the box. Defender Merrill Truluck ’18 was crossing the goal mouth and met the shot. Caught off guard, she reacted by covering her face and drew not only a penalty kick but a red card that would eject her from the game and leave the Wolfpack a man down for the duration. It was an unfortunate turn of events. The penalty kick was converted, making the score 1-0. That aside, the team played tough and held the score for the next 50 minutes of the game. Marlena DeCastro ’18 played an outstanding game on defense marking Hebron’s scoring threats.
While the first half ended 1-0, the second would prove more difficult for Hyde. The team began to wear down and Hebron mounted more offensive pressure. Midfielder Bailey Kent ’18 continued to work hard attacking the left flank but slow counters made her efforts fruitless. With 17 minutes left in the second half, Hebron was able to notch their second goal. Hyde didn’t quit, determined not to repeat their first meeting. Defenders Madison Hughes ’20 and Kyra Holdhampf ’19 played hard to the final whistle, keeping Hebron to a 3-0 final score. It was a tough break but the team responded well and should be proud of how they responded.
