Hyde – 4
Greater Portland Christian Academy – 0
The Wolfpack hit the road to shake off the previous day’s match against Hebron. Having never faced their opponent prior, they didn’t know what to expect. It was clear from the opening whistle that Hyde would have the upper hand. GPCA’s team was spirited but had difficulty possessing the ball into Hyde’s end. With two starters absent, the team experimented with a leaner back line. The additional offensive pressure paid off and the scoring opened with a brilliant 25 yard shot by captain Eliza Burroughs ’18. Ten minutes later, Bridget Barone ’19 scored her first goal of the season on a well-executed header. The cross came from Logan Truluck ’20, deep on the right flank. Though she wasn’t able to find the back of the net, Haley Baustert ’18 led the shooting, tallying four shots on goal. Hyde would close the first half scoring with a lethal outside shot from senior captain Elena Waldstein ’18.
The second half was an opportunity for the Wolfpack to work on their tactical execution. Eliza Burroughs ’18 commanded the midfield serving through balls to the flanks and switching fields. Bailey Kent ’18 carried the ball well and worked with back Madison Hughes ’20 to great effect. The period’s lone goal came from Alice Yokabaskas ’19 when she buried a deflection from the GPCA keeper. It was a well-played game and a much needed victory for the pack.
