Hyde – 3
Bradford Christian Academy – 2
The elusive win was finally pinned down by the Wolfpack at the Amesbury Sports Park in Massachusetts against host Bradford Christian Academy. It was a crisp, sunny afternoon and the newly laid turf was in fine shape underfoot. Similar to the previous game against Hebron, the team played hard in the first half. Play was largely dominated by Hyde with a 6-2 shot differential. Midfielders Ingrid Schroeter ’19 and Eliza Burroughs ’18 found a groove and distributed the ball well to the strikers and outside midfielders. The first goal of the match was scored by senior captain Elena Waldstein ’18 on a corner kick deflection that left the ball loose in front of the net. The BCA Sentinels didn’t quit and scored on a defensive scramble with less than two minutes remaining in the half.
The second half saw quick action when Elena Waldstein ’18 buried another close range shot to regain the lead for the Wolfpack. Again, the lead was fleeting as a BCA striker broke free twenty minutes later and scored a tying goal. Determined to go home with a win, Hyde began to crank up the intensity and generated several threats on goal. Logan Truluck ’20 peppered the goal and box with free kicks and crosses and finally connected with Alice Yokobaskas ’19 for the game winner. The backfield was commanded brilliantly by the senior-sophomore combination of Rachel Willey ’20 and Merrill Truluck ’18 while Madison Hughes ’20 played a strong game outside. It was an exciting match and positive outcome for a team that has been working hard for a win. The pack now prepares for a rematch against Hebron at home on Wednesday, October 4th.
