Hyde faced off for the SENE championship game against a strong St. Andrews squad with high hopes of bringing home their 5th straight league title. The hot weather was a factor as the Wolfpack were not at their best in the opening five minutes of the ball game. Thankfully, mid-fielder Brooks Doll ’17 took matters into his own hands and raced down the field to put Hyde ahead 1-0. Alex Sobel ’17 the face-off “wizard”, then took the face-off and found Nick Loris ’18 wide open who stuck one by the goalie from 20 yards out. St. Andrews fought back and capitalized on some defensive miscues to even the score at 2-2 where it stayed for most of the first half. Finally, the Wolfpack found their rhythm with goals from Ian White ’17, Jake Robinson ’19 and another one from Doll to go up 5-2 at the break.
In the second half, goalie Ian Cooke ’19 was instrumental in stopping shot after shot from the St. Andrews attack but a costly penalty by the wolfpack put St. Andrews on the powerplay for 2 minutes. St. Andrews was able to capitalize going into the final quarter 7-5 in favor of the Wolfpack. The boys were able to dig deep and manged to go on a 5 goal run with a great goal from Jake Vasapolli ’18 and ended with Doll’s third goal of the game to help seal the victory and another SENE title.
