Phoenix Girls Varsity Lax Tops Gould 12-6

The Hyde Women’s Lacrosse team faced Gould Academy Wednesday in their first Maisad contest of the year. The Phoenix played their best lacrosse of the season defeating Gould 12-6.  The key to victory was outstanding defensive play led by Goalie Madison Hughes (’20), saving 9 shots for a 60% average, her highest on the year. The rest of the defensive crew worked hard at shutting off several strong Gould attacks.  Grace Yu (‘19) Merrill Truluck (’18), Katie Ogens (’17), and Allie Grover (’17) turned the tide several times as they stripped Gould and forced the ball back up the field. The Hyde midfield, all in their first high school season, dominated the ground, securing 12 loose balls and scoring 4 goals. Hyde’s attackers totaled 9 goals and 9 loose balls led By Emma Levensohn (’17) and Bailey Kent (’18). Alice Yokabaskas (’19) set the tone for the game, stealing the ball from the Gould defenders to create scoring opportunities for her teammates. Daisy Humsey (’17) and Logan Truluck (’20) dominate the draw circle winning 65% of the contested balls. The Phoenix are 3-0 on the year and face NYA at home this Saturday the 15th at 2:00pm.
