Hyde XC @ Pomfret School
Rectory 25 Pomfret 53 Hyde 53
Hyde Cross Country raced at Pomfret School for a second time today with the goal of beating Pomfret and ringing the bell. Pomfret had beaten us by 28 points last time around. This time our full varsity seven was there to run the very challenging course. Andrew West ‘17 took off to an early lead and held it for the race placing first in 19:00 44 seconds ahead of the 2nd place runner from Rectory. This was an improvement of 16 seconds on this course for Andrew. Mehki McCray ‘17 and Khalil Johnson ’17 both had excellent races finishing together in 7th and 8th place in 21:01. This was Khalil’s first time on the very hilly 5k and he showed significantly improved strength through the hills and determination throughout the course. Mehki improved his time on the course by 55 seconds and put in an amazing effort as well. Ryan Wang ‘18 ran 4th for the team today and finished in 22nd place with a time of 23:26 an improvement of 1.5 seconds over his last time there. Unfortunately Omar Raddaoui ‘17 took a fall during the race and struggled to complete the course which made Tom Yao our 5th runner. We ended the race with a tie between Hyde and Pomfret but unfortunately the winner of a tie in cross country is the team with the fastest 6th place finisher and Pomfret took second by tie breaker. We weren’t able to put it all together and walk away with a win but the results from our first four runners were very encouraging as we begin to prepare for the SENE championship race at Williams this coming Friday. Please congratulate the guys on a hard fought race when you see them and encourage them to get pumped up for the SENE race!
