Hyde Cross Country raced at St. Andrews for the Jacober Invitational against everyone in the SENE for a pre-championship race showdown. With the SENE race fast approaching we had a chance to see where we line up against the competition. The boy’s finally had everyone in the top 7 present for a race and hopes were high that we would return to putting pressure on Williams. Andrew West ’17 chased the front runners but was hesitant to take the lead and push the pace. Today really showed that SENE championship is anyone’s race, with top runners from Wheeler, Hyde, MPS, and St. Thomas More slugging it out for the first two miles. When they emerged from the woods West was in 3rd place and finished there in 17:43, 12 seconds behind the winner from Marianapolis. From there it was a mixed bag for our team. Mehki McCray ‘17 had a solid race in 20:14 to finish 31st in the field of 113 runners. Omar Raddaoui ‘17 trailed just behind him in 33rd with a time of 20:24 a personal record for him. Khalil Johnson ’17 was looking a little flat today after some time off, but ran a solid race in 39th in 20:43. Finally, Tom2 delivered again this race. Tom Haung finished in 22:38 another 8 seconds off of his PR and Tom Yao finished in 24:28 another 33 seconds off of his personal best. Thomas Yao is now down 10min 31sec for the season and Tom Huang is down about 12min 30sec. In fact, the average improvement for the team is roughly 5minutes so far with time left to improve further.   We take one more trip to the hills at Pomfret School to race against Pomfret and Rectory this Saturday, then we prep for the SENE Championship Race the following Friday where we hope to put pressure on PCD and Williams. Please share your words of encouragement with the team and help motivate them to continue to reach for their best.
