Tough Loss for Phoenix BVS vs Kents Hill

Hyde School: 1 –Kents Hill School: 2

Kents Hill traveled to Bath on Saturday to play a match on the natural grass pitch during Family Weekend.  The weather was warm and sunny with light breezes.

The Hyde back four; Se Jun Kim`18, PG Dylan Budd, Jason Filios`18 and PG Brandon Nelson were under pressure from the start of the game.  Kents Hill scored a goal in the 8th minute.  The game was back and forth after that in terms of possession.   Offensively, central midfielders Serge Mudogo`18 and Jed Danforth`19 did a nice job of working the ball forward to strikers Christian Beeke`18 and Henry Tao`18.  They had some chances on goal but none resulted in goals.  In fact, Beeke`18 had a goal that was called back due to an offside infraction.  Kents Hill scored a second goal in the 18th minute.  The score at the half time break was 2-0.

The Hyde boys came out in the second half with renewed determination.  This resulted in more time with the ball in the offensive third of the field and more scoring opportunities.   This increased pressure resulted in numerous corner kick chances.  In the 58th minute Serge Mudogo`18 scored off a corner served in from captain PG Dylan Budd to bring in within one.  This goal lifted the boys and they forged ahead playing more offensively focused than they did in the first half.  This combined with strong play from captain Greg Kidger`17 at keeper, swung momentum in their favor.  However, despite their best efforts they were unable to find the equalizer before time elapsed.

This was a tough week for the team.  Numerous individuals were missing from practice, and the game, due to disciplinary action taken for activities unrelated to soccer.  This resulted in a fractured team that struggled to play the game at the level necessary procure the win.  This week, we will work on figuring out who has a commitment to the team and try to regroup.  This is a talented group of boys that has shown that they are capable of playing great soccer.  I hope they will develop the bonds and discipline to reach their collective potential.  Our next match will be with Hyde Woodstock, in Woodstock Connecticut, on Saturday October 22nd at 1:30.
