Wednesday October 12th saw the Wolfpack driving north to Thompson, CT to visit the Knights of Marianapolis Prep. It was a beautifully warm fall day on Marianapolis’ new home turf field. The Knight’s attack was swift and focused putting the Wolfpack midfield and defense quickly on their heels. The defensive team of Ian White ‘18 and Josh Schwartz ‘19 united to stop the ball and were largely successful in the opening minutes. A penalty kick tested keeper Dan Murray ‘17 five minute in but was not successful. In the eleventh minute Marianapolis midfielder Ryan Hourihan ‘18 struck a volley out of the air to put MPS on the scoreboard. Hyde kept focused on attack and was rewarded in the 24th minute when defender Robert Carter ‘17 struck a long ball to Derek Rwikangura ‘18 who then raced past the defense to place the ball onto net. The Knights successfully struck back twice more before the end of the half, closing the first forty minutes with 3-1.
The second half saw stronger offensive work from the Wolfpack. Shortly off the kick-off the Knights scored twice more before Hyde was able to react. In the 64th minute Jon Bell ‘17 penetrated the defense to gain another goal for Hyde. This was followed in short order another Bell goal on a cross from Altug Yilmez ‘19. Marianapolis scored goal another before the end of official time. The Wolfpack improved on their passing and possession game throughout the game.
The team looks forward to meeting Dexter at home on Friday.
