On Wednesday, September 28th, the Hyde School Wolfpack faced the Chancellor’s of St. Thomas More. It was the first truly fall day with cool temperatures and a constant breeze. Within the opening minutes the Wolfpack demonstrated superior ball control and moved as a team to attack the goal. At the two minute mark Jon Bell ‘17 received a long throw from Ian White ‘18 for a quick touch into goal. Shortly after this, Derek Rwikangura ‘18 received a through ball which he struck into net with ease. At both the eighth minute and 14-minute marks, Bell and Rwikangura scored after dominant possession by Altug Yilmuz ‘19 and Cooper Felt ‘19 in the mid-field. As play continued, Hyde focused on their passing game and spreading the field. Significant improvement was seen from outside midfielders Rowan Schwartzwald ‘18 and Sachin Venkatesh ‘18. They worked diligently to expand the field and make simple passes up-line. An own goal in the 18th minute put the score up 5-0.
During the second half, the Wolfpack continued to focus on ball possession and developing newer players’ touch and passing skills. The team worked to advance the ball to the corners and then make aerial crosses to offensive runs. Additional goals were scored by Yilmuz, on a direct kick from thirty-five yards, and Rwikangura off a crossed ball.
Hyde will travel this coming Saturday to play St. Andrews School at home.
