On Saturday September, 17th, the Boys XC Team headed north to compete at Gould Academy. There we faced most of our MAISAD competitors for the first time this season, including Gould, Hebron and Kents Hill. It was a warm, sunny day but luckily most of the trail was shaded by tree cover. The race was held on Gould’s hilly, single track mountain biking trails which meant you had to start out fast as to not get stuck behind a slower competitor. This course included an element known as “The Drop,” involving a very sharp decline for about 10 feet. Due to injury we only had 6 runners among the thirty-nine competitors.
Senior Demeke Geremew ’17 was the overall winner of the race with a time of 20:39. He was followed by Evan Davis ’17 in seventh place at 24:09. Parris Thompson ’18 (28:53) was quickly followed by Jack He ’18 (29:33) who outran a competitor in the final straightaway. Our fifth scorer was Bill Li ’17 with a time of 30:33. Hyde’s sixth runner, Zane Mao ’17, got lost towards the end of the course but still finished with a positive attitude. The coaches were impressed with our small yet mighty team who represented Hyde well! We are looking forward to having the full team healthy and back together again to compete at the Manchester Invitational this Saturday in Manchester, NH.
