The cross country team made their way to Portsmouth Abbey for their second race of the week. The course consists of rolling grass, and gravel hills and is typically a bit slower than the two courses we’ve run leading up to this. They took the line feeling a little tired, and sore from a tough week of racing and training but had a great day regardless, placing 4 runners in the top 20. The meet is not officially scored but the scores by my count would have Hyde in 3rd place just two points behind Williams.
Andrew West ’17 pushed the pace the whole race challenging a leading group of runners from Abbey. In the end one Abbey runner was able to pull away but Andrew dropped roughly 22 seconds off of his PR to finish in 18:48. Khalil Johnson stepped up to put the heat on our own Mehki McCray and finished 11th in 21:07 just in front of Mehki’s 12th place in 21:10. This is almost a full minute faster than Khalil’s previous best this season. Great work!!! It is nice to see a little friendly rivalry developing on the team. Omar Raddaoui pushed along on heavy legs to finish in 20th place in a time of 23:10. Tom Huang pulled another 7 seconds from his PR despite the rolling hills to finish in 26:47. We look forward to being hosted by Williams School next Saturday.
