New England Championship Track Meet – 5/21/16 at Hyde School (CT)

The Hyde School Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams took the New England Qualifying athletes to Hyde School in Woodstock, CT on Saturday May 21 to compete with the ‘Best of the Best’ in the region. It was a long day, but a fun day, and a great way to cap off a tremendous season.

Boys Meet:            10th out of 25 teams, 18 points

The Hyde Boys Track & Field team wrapped up a wonderful season with solid performances in the New England Championship meet. Following a MAISAD Championship performance, the competitors were slightly intimidated by the heightened competition, but performed admirably nonetheless.

Demeke Geremew ’17 closed his season with two great distance performances. Battling a season long injury, Geremew showed true grit and the joy he has for running in his 4th place finishes in the 1500m and 3000m. Antoine Montgomery ’16 had the best race of his career in the 200m, flying through the race for a personal record time of 23.18 and a silver medal (and team high score for the day) in the race. Serge Mudogo ‘18 rounded out the team scoring with an exhausting 100m trial and final, running between the high jump and the sprinting race. His competitive spirit carried him to a 5th place 100m finish, and over the high jump bar at 5’08” – his first time clearing that height all season. Mudogo and Montgomery wrapped up the meet with phenomenal 4x400m relay performances, with Montgomery running a 52.9 split and Mudogo closing the gap in the final leg, with a 55.1 split. Trevor Saucier ’16 overcame a tough .01 second keeping him from the 100m finals to shatter his season record in the 200m with a time of 24.18 seconds. All athletes who qualified showed tremendous effort and showcased their Phoenix spirit throughout the day.
