Phoenix Track and Field @ Belmont Hill School—5/7/16

The Hyde School boys and girls track teams made the long journey to the Belmont Hill School in Belmont, MA on Saturday. They faced some strong competition going up against Belmont Hill, Exeter Academy and Pingree School in our fifth track meet of the year. The day started out dark and stormy and as we pulled into the campus the rain began to pour. Luckily, after a short wait the skies cleared and the sun came out right as the meet was set to begin!

Girls Meet:

  1. Pingree            25
  2. Hyde                20

While Hyde had only the Pingree girls to face, that did not stop them from accomplishing many personal best performances. Gloria Feuer ’17 took first in the javelin with a PR of 78’11”, first in discus (59’09”) and second in the shot put (23’05”). Shirley He ’16 earned a third place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:21.04. Heaven Redd ‘16 took third in the long jump with a PR of 11’01”. Patricia Mudogo ’17 placed third in the javelin with a PR of 51’0” and third in discus (52’06”).

Other notable personal records:

Olivia Keuler ’19           19’03” in the shot put…  a 5.5 foot improvement

Timesha Walker ’17      14.8 in the 100m…         a 3 second improvement

Kessia Mugabo ‘17       16’0” in the shot put…    a 1.25 foot improvement

Boys Meet:

The boys team had a challenging day facing top tier competition. Yihang Li ’17 earned a second place finish with a PR of 19.2 seconds. In an attempt at qualifying in the 3k for the New England Championships, Evan Davis ’17 ran a huge PR of 10:59.3 (only 9 seconds away from qualifying!). Zeke Clement ’18 ran a PR in the 1500 of 5:42. Aaron Ayala ’17 had a strong day earning PR’s of multiple feet in both the shot put (31’05.5”) and the javelin (91’07”).

George Geertgens ‘16   28.1 in the 200m…         a 5 second improvement

Jason Wang ‘16            50.5 in the 300 hurdles…a 1 second improvement

Demeke Geremew ’17   4:25 in the 1500…          a 2 second improvement
