The Wolfpack JV Lacrosse Beat Williams, 4-3, in Second Contest Between the Two Teams
Woodstock (April 30, 2015) – The Wolfpack JV Lacrosse team travelled down I-395 to Williams Sports complex for the second game of the season between the two teams. Coming off a 12-3 win in our previous game Williams was hungry and looking to avenge their loss. The Wolfpack knew it was not going to be an easy game and was going to have to give it all they got until the very last whistle. The boys executed this plan with precision but it was not easy task
The Wolfpack fell behind early but a score from Ian Cooke ’19 kept the Wolfpack in the game. Williams scored two quick goals in the first quarter and heading into the second quarter Hyde was down 2-1. In between the quarters the coaches stressed to the team that they needed to take the game one quarter at a time and do a better job possessing the ball on offense as opposed to trying to force a shot on goal that wasn’t there. The boys rose to the occasion and tied the game by half time with a goal from Sean Duffy ’18. This was a momentum swing for the Wolfpack and in the second half the goal remained – take it one quarter at a time. After a few adjustments were made in the third quarter, Ian Cooke ’19 took the face-offs and Quintin Felder ’19 was his help at LSM. The duo was unstoppable at midfield and gave the Wolfpack the support they needed. The third score for the Wolfpack came from Hyde Sophomore Jacobo Checa-Schillinger ’18, who earned his first goal in his lacrosse career. The score put the Wolfpack up 3-2 heading into the fourth quarter. With under 3 minutes to play in the game a penalty from Hyde resulted in a score for Williams tying the game at 3-3. The boys did not hang their heads and instead picked up the intensity for the remainder of the game. With 1:15 left on the clock and a turnover from Williams put the ball on the offensive side of the field for Hyde. A time-out was called so that the Wolfpack could nstrategize the final minute of the game. The plan was to send the ball around in the motion offense and possess the ball until there was a clear shot on goal. Sean Duffy ’18 received the ball at X and one split dodge later found net with 37 seconds to go in the game. Wolfpack took the lead 4-3 and Williams did not have time to put a shot on net.
It is important to highlight the defensive front this game which played hard and stuck together even when the going got tough. Long Mai ’17, Grayson Belfer ’18, and the keeper Sean McKinley ’16 had outstanding games that made it difficult for the Williams offense to execute their game plan. Kyle MacInnis ’17 debuted in his first game for the team and worked hard at the midfield and showed signs of true hard work and determination.
Boys JV Lacrosse will play in their fifth game of the season against Stafford on 4/30. The boys improved to 3-1 on the season!
