Woodstock (April 25, 2015) – The Wolfpack JV Lacrosse team went on a business trip this past Saturday up to Bath, ME to face sister school, Hyde Phoenix. Despite a long bus ride the Wolfpack came out the gates strong and went up 1-0 right away. However, the Phoenix answered quickly and the boys new it was going to be a tough battle until the last whistle was sound. With under 2:00 minutes remaining in the game the Phoenix scored to tie the game 5-5. The Wolfpack won the face-off but turned the ball over after trying to possess the ball until time ran out. Unfortunately, for the Wolfpack it got worse when the ref called a slashing penalty on one of our defenders with 50 seconds to play in the game. Thus, the Wolfpack would have to defend their goal a man down for the remainder of the game. The ‘Pack stayed together and their communication was at an all-time high. The Phoenix was hoping to have the last shot but a deflected pass by Spencer Levin ’17 was the game changer the Wolfpack was hoping for. Levin knocked down the pass, scooped the ground ball, and took it across mid-field splitting two defenders for the score before time expired! Wolfpack win 6-5!
Levin played a key role in the Wolfpack victory as did Jake Vasapolli ’18 and Ian Cooke ’19 scoring the goals for Hyde, CT. Lastly, it is important to mention the outstanding efforts of our defensive front Nate McGill ’19, Wren Piper ’16, and Long Mai ’17. They pressured the attack and were a huge support system for Sean McKinley ’16 who was the keeper for the Wolfpack. Simon Chen ’18, Josh Miller ’19, and Aaron Douek ’17 demonstrated great improvements in their stick skills and their effort in the game did not go unnoticed.
Boys JV Lacrosse will play in their fourth game of the season against Pomfret School on 4/27. The boys improved to 2-1 on the season!
