Hyde-Bath Phoenix: 15 – Hyde-Woodstock Wolfpack: 8
Boys Varsity Lacrosse Welcomed the Hyde-Woodstock Wolfpack to the turf field on a warm, cloudy afternoon for their 8th contest of the 2016 season. With both teams entering the day with winning records, it promised to be a good matchup from the start.
The scoring got started early, with quick back and forth goals in the first minutes before the Phoenix took control with a 3-1 score by the end of the opening quarter. It was in the second quarter that the game separated, with the Phoenix boys exploding for 8 goals, their best single-quarter output of the season. Thanks to fantastic dodging and passing in the midfield and attack, the offense was paced by captain Aidan Bristow ‘16 (5g, 1a), captain Shemar Jack ‘16 (4g, 2a, team-high 6gb), and Greg Kidger ‘17 (2g, 5a). Also scoring in the game were James Kirby ‘17 (1g, 1a), Wallace Ogens ‘17 (2g), and captain (defenseman) Jesse Higgins ‘16 (1g). With a balanced and patient attack that has become the norm, the 15-goal output matched the second-best offensive effort of the season for the Phoenix.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Phoenix played outstanding for the majority of the game. With an atypical defensive gameplan, the boys responded to a shifting Wolfpack offense well, allowing only 3 goals through the first 36 minutes of play before slipping a bit in the final frame. The effort was led by Higgins (4gb), netminder McGehee Porter ‘17 (11 saves), Nick Mortazavi ‘16, and stellar play from long stick middies Scott O’Brien ‘17 and Randy LaVea ‘16. Other noteworthy efforts in the midfield came from Brandon Nelson ‘16 and Tyler Friedlander ‘18.
Off to the best 8-game start in a decade and rolling on a 4-game winning streak, the Phoenix boys look ahead to their next contest on Tuesday the 26th against the Maine Central Institute Huskies.
