Hyde School: 7 – Lewiston High School: 5
Boys Varsity Lacrosse headed down to the turf on the afternoon of the 19th to take on a good team in the Lewiston Blue Devils. The game was played under sunny skies on a warm April Morning.
This matchup proved to be a good one, and though the Phoenix never trailed in the game, their lead also never got to more than two. Every time it looked like Hyde might pull away, Lewiston proved they were up to the fight and clawed their way back. Hyde remained poised throughout the game, proving for the first time this season that they’re able to win a close game.
The offense was once again paced by captain Shemar Jack ‘16 (4g, 1a, 6gb), aided by contributions from captain Aidan Bristow ‘16 (2g) and a very impressive goal from Wallace Ogens ‘17 (1g). Though the offense never exploded the way they’ve proved they’re capable of, they used a patient offense and were able to score at the pace they needed to to control the game.
Defensively, the Phoenix were led by a monster effort from Randy LaVea ‘16 (game-high 7gb) in his first start of the season. LaVea proved himself a ballhawk when the ball was loose, and applied consistent pressure to him men, forcing turnover throughout the game. Goalie McGehee Porter ‘17 (16 saves) also had a big day in net, continuing his season of excellence between the pipes. Other noteworthy play came from Scott O’Brien ‘17 (6gb) at long-stick middie, captain Jesse Higgins ‘16, and Brandon Nelson ‘16.
The Phoenix look forward to their next matchup against visiting Fryeburg Academy tomorrow with short rest.
