Saturday, January 23, the girls JV basketball team traveled down the road to play the Marianapolis School. Similar to many of the previous games, Hyde was up against a more experienced team and a deep bench. The starting five took the court and begin sorting out, once again, how to best play against MPS. On defense they held their ground and began to battle the other team for rebounds. Elsa Zhang ’17 and Joyce Zhang ’16 were able to box out and grab rebounds on both offense and defense. Molly Yue ’18 and Allison Guan ’16 helped carry the ball and set up their newly learned plays. The first half ended with Hyde down 4-27 with two baskets from Joyce.
The second half of the game the team continued to work hard and figure out better ways to find holes in the other team offense. Ball movement on offense and setting up plays came more naturally and Hyde began to have fun. While they did continue to lose ground with the Marianapolis team, the girls were more effective in breaking down their offensive tactics. Many more rebounds, and scoring from Joyce and Katherine Li ’17, Hyde ended the game 8-39.
They have a good break until their next game to work on skills and team work to prepare!
