The Phoenix Boys JV basketball team started off the season with a road game against the gulls of Old Orchard Beach in Saco, Maine. Playing on the road to start off the season was tough for Hyde as they lost 45-28. The Phoenix played a phenomenal first half as the score was 24-21 at the half. The second half they were unable to produce enough offensively to keep up with Old Orchard High School. Losing the first game of the season is always tough, but after making a pit stop at the Maine mall for some delicious food the mood of the team quickly changed.
After losing the season opener the Hyde JV basketball team was not too fazed by it. After a couple hard days of practice preparing for Kents Hill they were ready to take on the league rival. It was the Phoenix first home game so the home court advantage appeared to be extremely beneficial for Hyde. The game was a great team effort leading Hyde to their first victory of the season. The Phoenix dominated the boards with a great rebounding effort from the entire team. A key factor to Hyde’s 35-25 victory was the ability to capitalize on turnovers. (1-1)
The Hyde JV basketball team took on the Richmond High School Bobcats for their third game of the season. The first half was a slow start for the Phoenix as they were unable to produce offensively. After some halftime adjustments Hyde came out hot in the second half using a full court press that Richmond could not handle. This defensive effort led to many turnovers, which ultimately won the game for Hyde. It was a great team win for Hyde as they were faced with some adversity in the first half and were able to rally back in the second half for their second victory of the season winning 26-22. (2-1)
