The Wolf pack junior varsity wrestling team headed to host school Tabor Academy to compete in the second “Futures Tournament” of the year. After a somewhat shaky first round of competition, the Hyde School grapplers cranked up the intensity for the rest of the day. Wrestlers who posted wins included Omar Raddaoui ’17, Tony Mao ’17, Long Mai ’17, and Keith Scafe ’17.
Four wrestlers earned individual medals. Jack Fu ’19 led the way for the lighter weights, securing a top 3 finish in the 106 lbs. bracket. Fu’s first period pin by way of half nelson was a highlight. Aaron Douek ’17 went 3-1 on the day. Douek put his strength and skills on display en route to capturing a 3rd place finish. Adversaries had no answer to the Douek double-leg takedown. Senior Jim Wang ’16 put together his strongest performance to date. He used his balance and strength to win by fall in the second round. Wang went 2-1 on the day.
The Wolf Pack’s most outstanding wrestler of the tournament was Simon Chen ’18. Chen registered a second round pin in just 8 seconds! To earn his third victory of the day Chen battled with his Tabor foe for a grueling 6 minutes. Chen fought off of his back in the second period and rallied back to win by decision 11-7. Chen’s display of resilience and determination was impressive.
