Phoenix Boys Varity Soar in Home Opener, Beat Gould 71-33

The Hyde boys’ varsity basketball team had an impressive home opener Wednesday, easily defeating Gould 71-33. The entire roster entered the game in the first half and played significant minutes throughout the matchup.

After two impressive victories on the road, the Phoenix had to refocus and play to their potential against a weaker team. The team started strong, making 5 steals and taking a 14-2 advantage. Guards Miguel Prieto 17’ and Antoine Montgomery ’16 set the tone, sharing the ball, pressuring the ball handlers and running an efficient secondary break. Forward Gatouch Pan 17’ also had an impressive first half, making 2 three point field goals and threw down a thunderous dunk in transition. At the half, the Phoenix led by 30.

The second half was a great opportunity for our bench to play heavy minutes and learn on the fly. Guard Mike Siben 17’ hit two three pointers and point guard Aman Wisdom 17’ ran the offense well and grabbed three rebounds.

The Phoenix were paced by Prieto 17’ ( 16 points, 5 steals, 3 assists), Pan ( 13 points, 14 rebounds, 2 dunks ) and Montgomery 16’ ( 11 points, 5 assists ) and Andrew Palermo 16’ ( 11 points ). Next up is a huge matchup vs class C power Pingree!
