Hyde away @ Temple Academy
Last night the ladies traveled to Waterville, Maine to play against Class D opponent Temple Academy. This game certainly came down to the final minutes of basketball.
In the first quarter, Temple gained quick momentum when they caught Hyde on their heels after tip off. Temple did a nice job shooting from the outside and capitalizing on Hyde turnovers. As a result, Hyde was down 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. From the start of the second quarter Hyde quickly regained momentum by tightening up their defense and hitting Timesha Walker ’17 hustling down the court on face breaks. The Phoenix also began to settle into their offense and move the ball into the paint especially to forward Diamond Brown ’16. Hyde outscored Temple by 7 points and went into the locker room with only a 6 point lead. In the third quarter Hyde and Temple traded baskets and with the energy from the Temple fans, Hyde was only up by 5 going into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Hyde found themselves in foul trouble which definitely hindered the play, but only slightly. With 6 minutes to go Hyde had a ten point lead. Allie Grover ’17 played aggressive defensive throughout the entire game but fouled out with 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Temple took advantage of Hyde’s foul trouble and silly turn overs and then closed the lead to 4…and then 3…but Hyde regained composure and possession offensively and put the ball in Brown’s hands to draw inevitable fouls to put her on the line. She sunk two out of three shots to put Hyde up by 5 with less than a minute to go and the girls were able to hold on to that lead. It was a close call but Hyde was able to get the job done.
Emma Levensohn ’17 hustle tremendously both offensively and defensively and made some great rebounds. Brown finished with 19 points, Walker with 10 and Brooke Clement ’19 with 7 points in the win.
