Hyde School: 2 – High Mowing School: 0
Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Wilton New Hampshire on Monday November 2nd to play a rescheduled match with High Mowing School. The game was played on their natural grass field under warm late autumn conditions.
The Phoenix boys took a while to settle in with regards to maintaining possession and making useful attacking runs. For much of the first half, play was back and forth, with Hyde having a slight possession and shots on goal advantage. The game was tied 0-0 at half time.
The second half was significantly better for the Hyde team. They increased the intensity and started generating more offensive attacking opportunities. This lead to a couple of nice goals. Captain Ben Mooney`16 scored a beautiful header goal on a James Kellogg`16 corner kick in the 54th minute. There were numerous other shots on goal, but Hyde’s James Kellogg`16 scored an unassisted goal in the 67th minute. The lads from High Mowing did not relent and the Hyde defense did a nice job of forcing them to take shots from outside the box. Additionally, the team thwarted a couple of corner kick chances with solid marking and athletic defending. Noteworthy play came from Dylan Budd`16 at Left Winger, Greg Kidger`17 at Keeper, Nolan Lowder`16 at Centerback and Captain Brett Van Vort`16 at Rightback.
This was a good result for us. It took a while to get going, but once we did things took off. The team will work on reinforcing some basic skills and tactics prior to our next match. We play Gould Academy on Wednesday November 4th at home on the turf field at 2:45. They edged us by a goal earlier in the season. The boys are looking forward playing them again. It should be an exciting match.
