(Bath, ME – October, 23) – The Woodstock Girls Varsity team faced off against their sister school, Hyde Bath, on the chilly but beautifully autumnal Bath campus. The team had a rocky start – short on numbers and with our transportation over an hour late, it was not an auspicious start. But the Wolfpack kept their spirits high, and despite a five-minute warm-up, started off the game with intensity. Right out of the gate, newcomer to the team (and school!) Cassidy Brosemer ’17, proved herself a valuable rookie talent as a forward, with a natural instinct for the game. Although the midfield overall struggled with positioning for the first half, Joanna Ren ’16 and Melissa Leventhal ’16 proved themselves invaluable supports on the wings. As per usual, the Wolfpack All-Stars were the defensive line, Joyce Zheng ’16, Leah Taylor ’16, Allegra Wetterings ’16, and Coco Cai ’17. Woodstock and Bath were excellently matched talent-wise, and it often fell upon the defensive line to maintain play in the center of the field. Play was fierce for the entirety of the first half, and despite excellent scoring opportunities for both teams, the score remained 0-0 at the half. As the sun dipped behind the trees, both light and heat dropped rapidly throughout the second half, and Bath scored a fast goal on a silly mistake, and then another immediately after. But the Woodstock team managed to rally, and despite not earning any goals themselves, played admirably and with sportsmanship.
