The boys of Hyde cross country have been busy the past two weekends. They traveled around Maine for two major competitions while enjoying a streak of beautiful and brisk fall weather. On Saturday, October 3rd the team traveled to Belfast, ME to compete in the Festival of Champions. With 64 teams and over 800 boys, the field was packed with thousands of athletes and spectators. Our boys were divided into three different races: freshman, seeded and unseeded. Hyde’s fastest runner of the day was Demeke Geremew ’17 with a personal record (PR) of 17:33, coming in 54th place overall. Our second and third runners were Gatouch Pan ’17, breaking 19 minutes for 18:55 (176th place), and Antoine Montgomery ’16 running 19:42 (289th place). While many of the boys were shattering the personal bests, a few major accomplishments were:
Brenden Lutes ‘18 earning a 5 minute season PR with 25:10.
Flynn Watson ‘19 running a 3:30 minute PR with 30:31.
Zeke Clement ‘18 shaving off 1:30 minutes to get 29:35.
Mike Hu ‘17 crushing a 6 minute season PR with 27:47.
This past Saturday, October 10th we travelled to Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, ME. There the boys faced all of our MAISAD competitors for the first time. Hyde strode out to earn first place with our top five athletes finishing in the top ten! Demeke Geremew ’17 came in 1st place overall running 17:52. Isaiah Trial ‘16, Gatouch Pan ‘17 and Antoine Montgomery ‘16 followed in 5th, 6th and 7th place. Our fifth runner, Evan Davis ’16, had an excellent race coming in 10th place.
