Kent’s Hill 7
After a long 22 day preseason, the Wolfpack football team finally got the season underway with a long road trip north to take on the Huskies from Kent’s Hill School in Maine. It was a perfect fall day for football and the four hour drive did not hinder the boy’s performance. Hyde running back/linebacker post-graduate Jordan Burney ’16 scored four times in the first half, rushing for three and returning one kick-off. Senior captain Omri West ’16 and Teddy St. Louis ’19 combined for a sack in the end zone which resulted in a safety and quarterback Reese Norton ’17 hit St. Louis for a 35 yard strike to close out the scoring in the first half. Senior place kicker Sean McKinley ’16 was 2 for 5 on point-after-tries on the day.
Defensively, Hyde dominated the line of scrimmage and made it very difficult for the Huskies to execute their offense. PG free safety Daylen Wiggins ’16 had three interceptions and Omri West ’16 and Marcellus Piper ’16 each grabbed one also. Piper had a great day running the ball and provided Hyde with a nice one-two-punch in the backfield.
Effort and Attitude Player of the Game goes to junior Sean Duffy ’17 who brought tremendous intensity to the game. His effort on special teams, in addition to that at linebacker and running back, inspired his fellow players and coaches alike. He also scored a rushing touchdown in the second half. Great job Sean!
The team looks forward to staying at home next Saturday as we host the Holderness School for a big Evergreen League divisional match-up at 4:30pm.
