Phoenix Varsity Boys Soccer Wins 4-1 in First MAISAD Matchup

Hyde School : 4 –Kents Hill:  1

Kents Hill school traveled to Bath to play the first MAISAD league match of the season on Saturday.  The contest was played on a natural grass pitch under warm and sunny weather conditions.Kents Hills scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute of play on a shot taken just inside the 18 yard box on the right side.  The Hyde squad countered with a goal by Captain Ben Mooney`16, scoring off a James Kellogg`16 corner kick in the 29th minute.  The score at half time was tied 1-1.

Evans Kagame`16 found the back of the net in the 63rd minute off a Ben Mooney`16 through ball just inside the box.  From this point on, Hyde controlled the possession game, keeping the ball in the offensive end for most of the remainder.  James Kellogg`16 scored the third goal unassisted with a cracker of a shot taken on a free kick 5 yards outside the box in the 75th minute.  Mooney`16 and Kellogg`16 worked their magic again in the 79th minute, again on a corner kick that Mooney`16 headed decisively into the goal.   Other notable play came from Centerback Nolan Lowder`16,  Captain Brandon Nelson`16 at Stopper, Kyler Hella`17 at left Fullback and Brett Van Vort`16 at right Fullback.  This defensive unit successfully thwarted attacking efforts by the opponent and did a great job of working with center midfielders James Lee`16 and James Kellogg`16 to move the ball out wide to Wingers Aidan Bristow`16 and Dylan Budd`16.

This was a great way for this group to start the season off in earnest.   They played well with respect to working hard, maintaining composure,  passing the ball and making good decisions when moving the ball from the back of the field.  In addition, the boys made some strides in terms of consistently holding their respective positions and spending less time getting caught out of position.  We have a scrimmage and 2 matches this upcoming week; Bowdoin College JV will be on campus on Monday the 21st for a scrimmage at 4:30pm, Bradford Christian will also come to us on Wednesday the 23rd at 4:00 and Hoosac School will be on campus for what promises to be an exciting match on Saturday morning the 26th at 10:30.
