Phoenix Cross Country @ Hebron & Camden, Maine

This Saturday, Hyde XC was represented in both Hebron and Camden, ME. The teams were separated into two groups, led each by Coach Sperzel and Coach Nuffer, respectively. The Hebron group went to compete against our MAISAD schools for a regularly scheduled competition, while the others went to support Hyde Alum Reade Brower in the Ragged Mountain Scuttle. It was a great day for both teams!

Eight members of our boys cross country team competed in our first meet against other MAISAD schools. The skies were clear with a hot sun shining down, but luckily the course was entirely in the woods. The boys proved themselves with strong performances landing our top five within the top fifteen finishers. As a team we came in second out of the three scoring teams. Demeke Geremew `17 came in first overall for the meet finishing in 19:16. Antoine Montgomery ’16 came in as our number two runner finishing 4th overall. Gatouche Pan `17, Andre Allen ’16 and Evan Davis ‘17 came in 11th, 12 and 13th places. Our sixth and seventh place displacers went to Bill Li ‘18 (23rd place) and Alan Wu `16 (31st place).

Individual boy’s results are attached.

Boys Team Score…

1. Gould Academy: 28

2. Hyde School: 41

3. Hebron Academy: 57

Ten runners competed in the Ragged Mountain Scuttle 5k, including Coach Nuffer and President Malcolm Gauld, with three Hyde runners who also worked as volunteers due to injury. The weather was picturesque for this grueling obstacle course. The runners had to climb over walls, carry a tire up a hill and a log down the mountain, and swing through monkey bars, all while running on the Camden Snow Bowl ski mountain trails. Those competitors include Lwazi Rennert ’16, Brendan Lutes ’18, Flynn Grover Watson ’19, Jack He ’17, David Lu ’16, Jayden Zhou ’16, Junior Jin ’18, and Zeke Clement ’19. It was a great day for the students to support and meet a Hyde Alum, and to support the Go!Malawi organization.

We want to thank everyone from the Hyde community that lent a hand in the smooth success of the meet and all of the parents that came to show their support!

Our next meet is on Saturday, September 26th at the Manchester Invitational at Derryfield Park Manchester, NH.

Best, Coaches Nuffer, Sperzel, and Grant
