Tough Loss for Wolfpack Girls Varsity Team on Home Turf

Wednesday, Sept. 16
Hyde vs. Portsmouth Abbey
Score: 0-7

The Hyde Girls Varsity Soccer Team started off their Fall 2015 season on their home turf full of promise and potential, despite the overall loss of 0-7. The girls played the strong Portsmouth Abbey team, who proved to be excellent competition, pushing the Wolfpack to test their basic ball handling skills, their internal communication, and their fitness. After two fast goals from Portsmouth, it became apparent that the majority of the game would be played on the Hyde defensive half. Hyde’s defense rose magnificently to the challenge – Joyce Zhang (’16), the sole veteran defender, commanded the back line, with significant support from newcomers to the sport, Allegra Wetterings (’16), Coco Cia (’17), Caramia Davis (’16), and Georgia Horelick (’17). Up top, Diary Rojas (’19), a freshman and first-time soccer player, shone as an aggressive, creative, and determined talent. But the overall star of the game was absolutely Daisy Humsey (’17). This was Humsey’s first soccer game and first time in goal, but she rose to the occasion, providing strong leadership for the entire team, in addition to making multiple fantastic saves. Despite Portsmouth’s relentless offensive push, the Hyde women were much more aggressive in the second half, stringing together better passes, and communicating more effectively. Overall, the team had a respectable showing, and continue to work hard and play hard as we prepare for our next match!

Go Wolfpack!
