Tough Loss for Fighting Phoenix BVL to Hebron 8-15

Hebron – 15
Hyde – 8

The Phoenix traveled to Hebron last Wednesday to face the Lumberjacks on a warm and sunny afternoon.  Some off the field disciplinary issues depleted numbers from the squad, but despite this, the team was full of fight.  Defenseman Jesse Higgins (’16) led the defensive charge, playing aggressive defense and scooping up a team-leading six groundballs.  Captain Noah Horning (’15) stood on his head in the goal and saved a total of 22 shots earning him a 59% save rating.

The Phoenix played tough and kept the score close for the first quarter, but small numbers led to tired legs and the Lumberjacks began pulling away.  Hyde trailed 7-2 at half, but the character of the players prevailed and they refused to quit.  Midfielders Aidan Sperry (’15)  and Shemar Jack (’16) fueled the midfield as they continued to power up and down the field despite running on fumes.  Both players tallied five hard-earned groundballs and Aidan ripped off eight shots for four goals, while Shemar beat the keeper twice on four shots and had two assists.  Greg Kidger (’17) found Dylan Budd (’16) with a beautiful feed to the crease and Budd deked a defender and then slipped a shot past the Hebron goalie.  Kidger also netted one of his own on the day.

It was a tough loss, but a great showing by the players on the field.
