On April 22 the boys boarded the busses once again to take on Berwick on a cloudy Wednesday. Earlier in the week the team faced a double header scrimmage against Brunswick and Scarborough at home. The day had some highs and lows but served as a great chemistry booster for the team.
The game started off with the Phoenix playing an abundance of defense. Holding us together between the pipes as usual Noah Horning (’15) who had a fantastic day snatching 15 saves. Aiding him with keeping the opposition at bay were brothers Jesse (’16) and Issac Higgins (’15) and Andrew Davis (’15). Also making his debut on the field after joining the team only a day before Peter Santry (’16) came off the bench big in the fourth quarter.
The midfielders battled all day over groundballs that seemed to refuse to stay in sticks. Shemar Jack (’16) grabbed a season high 12 groundballs and stepped up to replace an injury facing our faceoff guy. Joining him in the battle Max Kaplan (’15) and Decker Adelman (’15) notched a combined 7 groundballs. On the offensive front Mike Harris (’15) captured 4 goals on the day with Adian Sperry (’15) getting 2 and Shemar Jack finding one.
At the end of the day groundballs and hustle won the game with Berwick taking the win 8-7. Tough one to finish the boys were disheartened with the loss, but there was some light at the end of the tunnel. The Adelmans’ opened up their home to the team and hosted dinner before making the trip home; big thank you to them for feeding our famished team after the game. Next bout is a Friday matchup on Family Weekend at home against Gould Academy.
