The boys and girls track teams had “split-squad” completion on Saturday. The varsity athletes travelled to Woodstock, CT for competition against our sister school (coach Mellinger will report on this meet). The JV athletes travelled with me to Hebron Academy for competition against our MAISAD league varsity rivals. It was perfect weather for a good day of track and field. Overall I was pleased with our performance and competitive spirit… we even scored a few points against these varsity-level teams.
Meet scores are below and individual performances attached (for boys and girls).
Our top performer on the day was Leehey Ramon `15 who placed 3rd in the long jump, 4th in the 200m dash, and 5th in the 100m dash. Cherry Weng `17 placed 3rd for us in the 400m and freshman Macy Weymar `18 placed second in her first-ever track meet in the high jump. The highlight of the day was junior Heaven Redd’s 200m and 400m competition. This meet marked Heaven’s return to track competition since suffering an unfortunate lower leg amputation two years ago. I had tears in my eyes watching her compete for the first time since her freshman year… and she placed 4th in the 400m!!!
Our top performer on the day was Bernard He `17 who placed 3rd in the long jump and 4th in the 200m. Andre Allen `16 took 4th place in the 1500m and teammate Zeyuan Tang `15 was right behind in 5th place. Jack Gao `17 took 4th place for us in the 3000m run and Frederik Lasson `15 took a 5th place in the discus.
Our next meet is Saturday, April 25th home during the Spring Family Weekend.
