Phoenix JV Lax Falls to Wolfpack 4-7

Team:  Boy’s Future Varsity Lacrosse

Date:   April 18, 2015

Score:  Hyde Bath:  4
Hyde Woodstock: 7

The Hyde Future Phoenix travelled four hours south to take on the Wolfpack during their Family Weekend.   Woodstock jumped out to a quick two – nothing lead in the first as the Phoenix defenses scrambled to get set early in the game.  Long poles Connor Foye (5 ground balls and 3 clears on the day), Max Hewitt (4 ground balls, 2 strips and a clear), and Randy Genson (4 groundballs and 2 clears) found their footing and slowed the Wolves until the final minute of the half when a quick goal sent the teams into half time; pack on top 3 – 0.  The Phoenix came out fighting and tied the score with 2 goals from James Bristow and one from Ricky Buono in the third to tie the game going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw both teams work aggressively for the ball and shots, with the pack putting two fast break shots past keeper Dawson to go up 5 – 3 early in the 4th and one more at the 6 minute mark to go up 6 – 3.  Phoenix keeper Jacob Dawson made 10 save in the 4th quarter alone to end his day with 25 save of 32 shots on net!  Brett Van Vort (7 ground balls and 5 face off wins on the day) and Shane Miller (6 ground balls) began to win face-offs and carried the load of the ground ball game…but the offense could not buy a goal as the Pack keeper stopped all 13 shots on net in the fourth quarter.  Ricky Buono added his second goal with 4 minutes to go to close the gap 6 – 4.  The Pack netted a final goal in a flurry of activity as the Phoenix took chances to gain possession to end the game 7 – 4.
