Wolfpack Track & Field @ Worcester

On Saturday, April 11, the Hyde-Woodstock Track & Field team headed to Worcester Academy for their first meet of the season. Facing off against Worcester Academy, Marianapolis Prep, and Kingswood-Oxford, the Wolfpack came up short in the scoring but set some solid marks for the start of the season.
For the Boys team, Jesse McKiernan ’15 and Corban Basile ’18 led the charge with their runs, McKiernan placing 2nd in the 800 and Basile placing 3rd in the 1500 and 5th in the 3000. Other key point contributors included Harrison Horner ’15, who placed 4th in the 110 high hurdles, 5th in the 200, and 4th in the high jump, and Leonard Moore ‘PG, who placed 2nd in the shotput and 3rd in the discus. Though they did not score points, solid efforts were put forth by Jason Zheng ’17 in the javelin, Ryan Zqick ’15 in the 200, Kevin Wang ’16 in the shotput, and Sam Song ’18 in the mid-distance runs.
Although a smaller team than their competitors, the Girls team rallied and demonstrated their potential at Saturday’s meet. Alexis Bourgoin ’17 and Dossou Ndiaye ’15 got the scoring started with Bourgoin’s 3rd place finish in the 300 intermediate hurdles and Ndiaye’s 1st places in the shotput and the javelin. Newcomers to throwing Coco Cai ’17 and Sanfy Qian ’18 scored points as well for the wolfpack, with Cai earning 4th in discus and 5th in javelin and Qian getting 5th in discus. It was great to see solid performances as well from Elsa Zhang ’17 and Catherine Leung ’18 with the throwing events in their first meet.
Overall, it was a great first showing for the Wolfpack Track & Field team and coaches and athletes alike look forward to seeing the improvement at Wednesday’s meet at Wheeler School.
