Bath senior Jake Deutschlander signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to attend and wrestle at Arizona State University.  The Carver, MN native has had an incredible prep career capped off by an impressive senior season at Hyde School where he garnered international medals and placed 5th in the prestigious National Prep Wrestling Championships at 160 pounds.

Jake’s accomplishments on the mat have been considerable.  He has earned All-American status in the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior National Greco-Roman tournament in Fargo, ND four times, including finishing as the National Runner Up in 2014.  He earned gold medals in freestyle wrestling at both the University of New Brunswick Open and Eastern Canadian Championships in Fredericton, NB  in January (wrestling both senior and junior level tournaments in the same day), and earned a bronze medal for Team USA in Riga, Latvia at the Memorial H. Kogan senior level Greco-Roman tournament.

His prep wrestling career ended with consecutive tournament championships and Most Outstanding Wrestler  awards  culminating in winning the 2015 New England Prep Championship and All American status at National Preps.

Jake, a consistent 3.5 GPA student, intends to study business and finance at ASU and to continue both his Greco-Roman and Folkstyle wrestling careers under the tutelage of head coach Zeke Jones.  “Arizona State University has been universally regarded as bringing in the #1 ranked recruiting class in Division 1 wrestling this year, and Jake is a tremendous addition.  He adds to an impressive class with his tenacity and love of the sport, but also with his experience and mentoring ability.  He has had an incredible two years here at Hyde School and really grown into a leader and role model both on and off the mat,” said Hyde Head Wrestling Coach Logan Kidwell.

Jake is destined for great things and all of us at Hyde School are so proud of him and excited for the next phase of his journey!
