On Thursday, April 9 Hyde School will host the third Maine State Youth Leadership Day on its Bath, Maine campus. High school students from the Hyde-Bath and Hyde-Woodstock campuses will be joined by 37 Maine middle and high school groups, amounting to over 600 students. The theme for day is “Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Solutions.”
Local leaders as well as school groups will be leading workshops during the morning breakout sessions. Some of the presentations include a session on “What Authentic Leadership Is And What It Looks Like” presented by Bridgton Academy, “The Top Tips for Effective Communication and Presentation” presented by small business coach Mandy Schumaker, and “The Power of Influence and What You Can Do About It” presented by college football coach J.B. Wells. There will be eighteen break-out sessions in total.
Steve Abbott, U.S. Senator Susan Collins’ chief of staff, will be giving the keynote presentation. He will address how he has transformed his struggles into lessons that he has used to develop his leadership skills.
The day will conclude with a student and adult speakers panel discussion on adversity and set-backs and leadership.
Throughout the event participants will be tweeting what they’re learning and photos from the day to the hashtag #leadersofthe207. It is the hope that each student will leave with a renewed sense of their own leadership potential.
