Boys J.V. Basketball
Hyde School 47
Portsmouth Abbey School 45 (OT)
On Monday, the boy’s J.V. team hit the road again for a trip to southern Rhode Island and the Portsmouth Abbey School. At first glance, the Abbey team looked tall and skilled so we knew we had our work cut out for us. For the most part, it was a very tight game. The Wolfpack went into the half up 5 and actually extended the lead to ten twice in the second half. However, Abbey turned up their defensive effort and forced us into turnovers and poor shot selection. In overtime, Abbey took an early lead and Hyde had to claw its way back on top. Player of the game was center Justin Allard. Justin dominated down low and drew praise from the officials at halftime on his ability to create space and his soft touch around the rim. Justin quickly scored a basket and two free throws on the next possession; it was a critical four points in overtime that Abbey never overcame. Overall, it was another good team win. The boys pressed the whole game and worked hard.
Scoring was as follows:
Justin Allard 22; Jack Greenberg 7; Kevin Ge 5; Tyler Jenkins 3; Aaron Luther 2; Tyler Dewees 8
Hyde looks forward to hosting Putnam Science Academy, who beat us earlier in the season on a last second shot at their school, on Wednesday at 2:30.
