Drama students at Hyde School will perform Grease on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21 at 8:00 pm in the Hyde School Cultural Center.
A Samuel French, Inc. production, Grease’s 8-year run on Broadway, two subsequent revivals, and innumerable school and community productions make it one of the world’s most popular musicals.
Set in the late 1950s at Rydell High, Grease depicts the story of head “greaser” Danny Zuko, played by Andrew Fusco ’16, and newcomer Sandy Dumbrowski, played by Maya Markowicz ’16, trying to relive the romance of their “Summer Nights.” Complicated by the shenanigans of the Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies, the crew dances and sings their way through “Greased Lightnin,” “We Go Together,” and other classic tunes that recall the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley.
Directed by Laura Renard, Pam Racicot, and Bei Zhou, the production will feature the following Hyde School students: seniors Emma Deary and John McMahon; juniors Jake Dickerson, Demi Flack, Andrew Fusco, Maya Markowicz, Sean McKinley, and Francie O’Neill; sophomore Vivian Yu; and freshman Colin Gardner.
Laura Renard, the head director of Grease, shared her excitement for the show: “Grease is probably our most challenging production yet, and the students have risen to it, taking the show on with determination and solid effort. We are honored to have the opportunity to perform this hit Broadway show in February.”
The show is free (although donations will be accepted and refreshments sold), and is open to the public on both evenings.
