Phoenix Wrestling at the 2015 Northern New England Invitational

11 February 2015

The Phoenix Varsity Wrestling Team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday at Tilton School in NH at the very competitive 2015 Northern New England Invitational.  This year, the tournament featured 17 teams, led by tournament champion Middlesex School of MA.

The Phoenix battled in every contest, but fell short of placing in the top 4 of their weight classes.

Junior 126 Louis Liu had an incredible start to his day, linking offensive techniques to upend his higher seeded opponent, but finished the day 1-2 and out of the medals.

Similarly, junior 220 Jason Tang made it to the consolation semi- finals where he was eliminated from medal contention.

Junior Andre Allen was impressive, racking up 3 incredible wins against 2 losses to finish just shy of the medals as well.

Senior Captain Jake Deutschlander was dominant in his 160 pound weight class.  He racked up the offense in each of his three matches, earning 3 first period pins, the Tournament Championship, and the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler recognition!  Congratulations Jake!

Hyde finished the tournament in 12th place.

The Phoenix hit the postseason on Saturday 14 February 2015 at Northfield- Mount Hermon School for the 2015 Class A League Championships with a berth at New Englands on the line for the top 4 finishers in each weight.  Wish us luck!
