Wolfpack Wrestlers Wins a Close One Against Pomfret

Hyde-Woodstock: 36
Pomfret School: 36

This Wednesday, Hyde-Woodstock varsity wrestling drove 3 miles down the road to face-off against their local rivals at Pomfret School.  The Griffins are both friend and foe for the Wolfpack, seeing as we frequently pair up for practices and know each other on a first name basis.  Coach Labeef also has a personal stake in beating Pomfret since he himself is an alumni and All-American wrestler from their program.  Every year it is a close match up and this year was no different, in fact it would come down to the rulebook for us to decide who won a tie!  Some highlights of the match included pins by Corban Basile ’18, Doug Main ’15, Dawit Kiflemariam ’15 and Jesse McKiernan ’15.  When the dust settled, the score was 36-36. There are several criteria to break a tie.  First was most pins, which Pomfret and Hyde remained tied on.  We had to use the fourth criteria to decide the match.  This means the team with the most first take downs would win.  Hyde came out on top with a 4-3 tie breaker over the Griffins.  Overall it was a great day and the best part of it was that the very next day we had a combined practice with Pomfret again and the camaraderie continued to be strong even after a close match.  We look forward to our next match against Lexington Christian Academy and Worcester Academy this Saturday.  Wish us luck and keep up the support!
