Sheppard’s Hill: 38
On Wednesday, we had an unexpected addition to our schedule with the dual against Sheppard’s Hill, a nearby Massachusetts public school. It was a nice change of pace to wrestle an opponent we are not used to seeing, and it gave our guys a chance to see public school wrestling as well. Sheppard’s Hill had several forfeits and gave up matches at the 106, 113, 120, 126 and 170 weight classes. Hyde also forfeited the 113 and 120 weight classes, as well as forfeiting 285. This meant that forfeits would play little to no role in how this match was determined. With 8 total matches in the line-up, it was bound to be close. Hyde unfortunately only won 3 out of these 8, and only pinned 1 opponent out of the 3 wins. A few highlights were Corbin Basile ’18 who tech-fell (wins by 15+ points) his opponent and Dawit Kiflemariam ’15 who wrestled his best match of the season and won in a 9-5 decision. Koray Altay ’15 would earn the only pin on the day and showed humility and sportsmanship upon his victory by helping the opponent up and patting him on the back. Sheppard’s Hill capitalized on wins by pins and took control of the match. It was still an exciting day and we also earned a new local ally. The coach from Sheppard’s Hill asked if they could join us now and then for a combined practice, and we eagerly accepted. We look forward to working with them in the future.
Stay tuned for the weekend as the Wolfpack will enter its first invitational of the year at the Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT. This is a great opportunity to test our meddle as a team to hopefully come home with some medal on our necks. Wish us luck!
